Depending on the type of activity to be carried out in Romania, the supporting documents for the type D visa differ:
Economic activities – D / AE:
- – proof of fulfillment of the conditions provided by the special law;
- – medical insurance during the validity of the visa;
- – criminal record certificate or other document of the same legal value, issued by the authorities of the state of domicile or residence and, as the case may be, apostille or superlegalized.
Professional activities – D / AP:
- – proof of fulfillment of the legal conditions for exercising the respective professions;
- – proof that in the country of origin he practices a profession similar to the one he intends to pursue in Romania;
- – medical insurance during the validity of the visa;
- – criminal record certificate or other document of the same legal value, issued by the authorities of the state of domicile or residence and, as the case may be, apostille or superlegalized
Commercial activities – D / AC:
- – specialized technical opinion on the business plan of foreign investors
NOTE: According to art. 43 of GEO 194/2002, the long-stay visa for commercial activities is granted on the basis of the specialized opinion on the business plan of the foreign investor, issued by the competent authority; the opinion is valid for 6 months from its issue. We recommend that you obtain this opinion before submitting the application.
- – medical insurance during the validity of the visa;
- – criminal record certificate or other document of the same legal value, issued by the authorities of the state of domicile or residence and, as the case may be, apostille or superlegalized.
Employment – D / AM:
- – proof that the single application (cerere unică) filed for the applicant on the WorkinRomania.gov.ro platform by the employer (visa D/AM1) or by the authorised placement agency / authorised employer (visa D/AM2) has been approved; the former employment permit (aviz de angajare) was abolished by GEO 32/2026;
- – the individual employment contract registered in the general register of employees (REGES-Online), or the contractual documents required for the relevant category;
- – the single application is filed directly by the employer (visa D/AM1) for highly qualified workers, for activities requested by ministries or central public authorities, for teaching, scientific and artistic staff, for professional athletes and for citizens of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Serbia employed full-time; for permanent, seasonal and cross-border workers (visa D/AM2) the occupation must be on the list of shortage occupations;
- – proof of means of subsistence at the level of the minimum gross basic salary per country guaranteed in payment for 90 days (not required for highly qualified workers);
- – criminal record certificate or other document with the same legal value, issued by the authorities of the state of residence or residence and, as the case may be, apostille or superlegalized;
- – medical insurance during the validity of the visa.
- – the visa application filed for seasonal workers, where the single application does not state that the employer provides accommodation to the applicant, must be accompanied, in addition to the documents mentioned above, by proof of accommodation conditions to ensure an adequate standard of living for the entire duration of the intended stay, in the form of a firm reservation at an accommodation unit, a deed of ownership or rental of a dwelling in Romania on behalf of the applicant or an authenticated declaration on ensuring adequate accommodation conditions for applicant, given by the holder of a right of ownership or use of a dwelling on the territory of Romania
The foreigner applies for the long-stay visa for employment at the Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office after the single application has been approved on the WorkinRomania.gov.ro platform.
The General Inspectorate for Immigration verifies the single application within 30 days from its filing, and the visa application is decided within 30 days from the date on which the foreigner appears at the diplomatic mission or consular office; the D/AM1 and D/AM2 visas do not require the separate visa opinion of the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
